As I sit down to write this first blog post, I’m filled with excitement and gratitude. My name is Simon, and I’m thrilled to share my story of how I became involved with Sokolo and helped launch this website.
After finishing secondary school, I felt an insatiable desire to explore the world and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than myself. Growing up in the Netherlands, I realized how privileged I was, and I wanted to give back. My passion for football, which I’ve been playing since I was young, led me to volunteer at Sokolo through the Dutch organization Doingoood.
From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of comfort and belonging. I met Raymond on my first day, and we quickly hit it off. Initially, I focused on providing football training, but as I learned more about Sokolo’s history, community, and culture, I became eager to contribute in other ways. Raymond and I brainstormed numerous ideas, and over the course of four incredible months, we accomplished some amazing things – the computer hub, school program, and Sokolo league, to name a few.

However, one project eluded us: the website. As I’m not skilled in website design, I needed help. Thankfully, Raymond’s brother Brian stepped in, and together they created this stunning website. I extend my heartfelt thanks to them both!

I’m overjoyed to see our website finally launched, and I hope it will showcase the remarkable work Sokolo does to a global audience. I’m grateful for my experience and the opportunity to be part of this journey.
