This week, we took a significant step towards achieving our goal of transforming the lives of children and youth in our community. We sent two representatives – Hakim, a coach, and Cate, one of our participants – to attend the Building Resilience through Football (BUREF) training organized by Watoto Wasoka. The training was a huge success, with both representatives returning with new skills and knowledge to share with our community.
The five-day training equipped our representatives with the knowledge and skills to use football drills to teach and educate about mental health. They underwent rigorous theory and practical sessions, both on and off the pitch, and were awarded certificates of participation at the end of the week.
A Platform for Growth
The training provided a valuable opportunity for our representatives, to engage with other coaches, learn from their experiences, and develop their skills. Hakim shared his excitement about the opportunity, saying, “It’s really great to go out and engage with other coaches, get to know them, and see how they do things. It’s helping me in my development.

Active Participation and Ownership
We were thrilled to receive feedback from the instructor, Mugoya Francis, highlighting Cate’s active participation during the training. This level of engagement demonstrates our young people’s willingness to take ownership of their learning and development.

Impact and Next Steps
But this is just the beginning. Our representatives have been tasked with returning to our community to teach and educate children and youth about mental health using football.
We’re excited to see the impact that Hakim and Cate will make in our community. With their newfound skills and knowledge.
Stay tuned for updates on their progress.
